POCATELLO, Idaho- Chris Hansen became the 20th Idaho State men's basketball player in program history to reach the 1,000 point mark as he scored nine points in a 59-50 loss to Bakersfield on Saturday evening in the final game of the World Vision Classic at Utah State. Hansen now has 1,003 points in his career. Hansen needs five points to move into 19th place on the ISU all-time scoring list, passing Ev Fopma (1971-73) who finished his career with 1,007 points.
Nnamdi Ezenwa led the Bengals in scoring with 13 points and four rebounds.
Ben Wilson had a season-high 10 points and three assists.
Jeffrey Solarin led the Bengals on the boards with seven. ISU shot 40.4 percent from the field while Bakersfield shot 45.7. The Bengals shot 48 percent in the first half but was only seven-for-22 (31.8 percent) in the final 20 minutes.
Idaho State was out rebounded 34-27.
ISU shot the ball well early in the game thanks Ezenwa scoring the first five points. Ezenwa later hit a 3-pointer to give ISU a 10-8 lead with 15:25 left in the first half. Bakersfield later took a 23-18 lead with 7:26 left in the first period. ISU regained the lead at 29-26 following a Hansen layup with 2:08 left in the half.
The Roadrunners then closed out the half making two 3-pointers to take a 32-29 halftime lead.
Bakersfield jumped out to a 45-32 lead to start the second half. ISU countered with a 13-3 run to come within three points at 48-45 following a free throw by
Ajak Magot but that would be the closest Idaho State would get the rest of the night.
Idaho State plays at Utah Valley on December 23. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
