Bengals Power to a 10-7 Win Over Utah State

Hickman and Galasso tally four RBIs each in the win

Box Score ST. GEORGE, Utah – In 2013 the Idaho State softball team had one of the most potent offenses in the country. The Bengals started off 2014 in a similar fashion. ISU beat Utah State 10-7 behind two home runs by Maddy Hickman and a go-ahead grand slam from Vicky Galasso.

The Aggies scored three runs in the first inning on consecutive home runs by Sydney Hart and Victoria Saucedo.

The Bengal offense then started chipping away. Hickman scored a one-run homer in the second inning followed by a two RBI single to left field by Terah Blackwell in the third to tie the game.

In the fifth inning Hickman tallied her second and third RBI on a single that scored Kacie Burnett and Katelyn Marquez to give ISU a 5-3 lead.

In the top half of the Sixth inning Utah State tied the game on two singles but the Bengals would answer in a big way in the bottom half of the inning.

Burnett and Marquez were again on base, but this time they were joined by Micheala Taylor when Galasso came to the plate. The reigning Big Sky Player of the Year worked the count and when she saw her pitch, she sent it over the wall in dead-center to give ISU the 9-5 lead.

Not to be out-done, Hickman sent the ball over the center-field wall for her second home run of the game.

Utah State scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning but Bailey Foster finished off the side and scored her first win of the season.

The Bengals face Texas-Arlington tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. in their second game of the Red Desert Classic. They will follow immediately with a game against Utah Valley at 4 p.m.
