POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team travels to Boise State for five games at the Spring Hill Suites Invitational. The Bengals plays two games against Boise State and three vs. Lafayette. ISU opens with Lafayette at 12 p.m. on March 14. Idaho State then plays Lafayette on March 15 at 9:45 a.m. and Boise State at 2:15 p.m. The invitational concludes on March 16 when ISU plays Lafayette at 12 p.m. and Boise State at 4 p.m. All games will be played at Donna Larsen Park.
The Week That Was
The Bengals went 3-1 at the UC Riverside Highlander Classic. ISU won its first three games, beating San Diego, 5-2, Utah State, 9-4 and UC Riverside, 9-0 in five innings. San Diego beat ISU 3-2 in eight innings in the final game of the Highlander Classic.
Haley Douglas and
Kacie Burnett earned Big Sky Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week honors for their performances in the tournament. Douglas was 2-0 in 12 innings. She did not give up an earned run all weekend. Burnett hit .706 (12-for-17).
Spring Hill Suites Invitational Opponents
Boise State leads the overall series with the Bengals, 11-4. The Broncos took two of three from ISU last year. ISU beat Boise State 6-4 and lost, 8-0 and 8-7. This will be the first meeting between Idaho State and Lafayette.
Scouting the Opponents
Boise State is 10-11 and went 3-1 last week at home, beating Indiana 3-2 and Valparaiso 6-5 and 7-0. BSU also lost to Indiana 5-4. Lafayette is 1-3 but 11 of their games have been canceled due to weather on the East Coast.
Bengals in the NCAA Stats
As a team, Idaho State has the 16th best batting average in the country at .336. ISU ranks eighth in scoring at 7.25 runs a game and 32nd in home runs per game at 1.00. The Bengals have the 29th best slugging percentage at .503.
Individually,
Vicky Galasso ranks fourth in home runs per game at .45, fifth in home runs with nine, second in RBIs per game at 1.70, 15th in runs per game at 1.30, 17th in slugging percentage at .898 and 21st in walks at .90 a game.
Kacie Burnett has the sixth best batting average in the country at .543 and she ranks 11th in on base percentage at .600. Burnett is eighth in runs per game at 1.35 and seventh in triples.
Terah Blackwell is 32nd in home runs with six and 33rd in sacrifice flies with two.

Bengals Earning Weekly Big Sky Conference Honors
The Bengals have earned three of the five conference player of the week honors.
Kacie Burnett earned it week one.
Vicky Galasso earned the honor on March 4 and Burnett earned the honor again this week for her performance at the UC Riverside Highlander Classic.
Haley Douglas also brought home conference pitcher of the week honors this week.
Leading the League
The Idaho State offense leads the Big Sky Conference in 11 statistical categories. The Bengals are the top team in the conference in batting average (.334), slugging percentage (.503), on base percentage (.418), runs scored (145), hits (191), RBI (128), triples (6), walks (74), sacrifice flies (10), stolen bases (28) and steal attempts (30).
Leading the League (Individual Stats)
Individually, the Bengals are a top the conference stats in 14 offensive categories.
Kacie Burnett is first in the conference in batting average (.543), on base percentage (.600), runs scored (27), hits (38), triples (3), stolen bases (10) and stolen base attempts (11).
Vicky Galasso is first in the league in slugging percentage (.898), RBI (34), home runs (9), total bases (53) and walks (18).
Terah Blackwell is first in the league in doubles (6) and tied for first in sacrifice flies with teammate
Maddy Hickman (2).
The Power Continues
Last year ISU hit over .300 for the first time since the program was brought back in 2007. The Bengals finished with a .329 average, the second best mark in program history. The 1977 team finished the season with a .351 batting average. The 2013 team also set single season records in home runs with 78 and RBIs with 315. This year's ISU squad has already hit 20 home runs, totaled 191 hits and 128 RBIs.
