POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team opened the Spring Hill Suites Invitational with 16-1 five-inning win over Lafayette College on Friday afternoon in Boise.
The Bengals opened the game with a five-run first inning and they didn't let up, scoring one run in the second, four in the third and six in the fourth inning.
Terah Blackwell,
Kacie Burnett and
Katee Wiley each had three hits to lead the Bengal offense. ISU had 11 different players' record hits during the five-inning game. Blackwell recorded five RBIs while
Vicky Galasso had three. Wiley,
Maddy Hickman and
Gabby Lopez each had two RBIs and
Katelyn Marquez and
Sarah Hayes each had one.
Blackwell hit her seventh home run of the season in the third inning on a three-RBI blast to left field.
Haley Douglas earned the win by pitching her fifth complete game of the season. She allowed only three hits, one walk and struck out two in five innings of work.
"I was very impressed with our offensive execution," Idaho State coach
Julie Wright said. "The hitters did a nice job putting runs on the board in every inning. I was also impressed with the defensive play of
Hailey Breakwell at short. (Haley) Douglas pitched a solid game. Overall we did a nice job today."
The Bengals scored their 16 runs on a season-high 19 hits. The ISU defense did not commit an error in the field.
The Bengals are back in action on Saturday at Dona Larsen Park in Boise with a 9:45 a.m. start time vs. Lafayette and a 2:15 p.m. start time vs. Boise State.
