Bengals Beat Lafayette 6-0; Fall to Boise State 4-1

POCATELLO, Idaho-  The Idaho State softball team earned a split in the second day of the Spring Hill Suites Invitational by beating Lafayette 6-0 and falling to Boise State 4-1. All games are being played at Dona Larsen Park in Boise.

The Bengals were led offensively by Micheala Taylor who was four-for-six on the day and scored two runs. Katee Wiley was four-for-seven and scored two runs and Terah Blackwell was three-for-seven with two RBI.

Bailey Foster and Jessica Tolmie combined to pitch a one-hitter in the 6-0 win over Lafayette  and Haley Douglas took the loss against Boise State, pitching 3.2 innings, allowing six hits, four runs and striking out one. Tolmie pitched 6.1 innings on the day and did not allow a hit while striking out seven and walking four.

"We played solid softball against Lafayette and got a good performance in the circle from Foster and Tolmie," Idaho State coach Julie Wright said. "We just plain got beat by Boise on all sides of the ball. I will say that the one bright spot was Micheala Taylor. She has been doing a great job both offensively and defensively. I also thought Vicky did a nice job behind the plate and a third."

Foster pitched the first three innings, allowing one hit, two walks and striking out two while Tolmie earned the win by tossing the final four innings and allowing no hits, three walks to go along with five strikeouts.

The Idaho State offense had 11 hits. Wiley and Blackwell each went three-for-four on the day. Blackwell had two RBIs and hit her seventh double of the season. Taylor was two-for-three with two runs scored.

ISU led 2-0 after three innings. In the fourth inning, ISU broke the game open with a three-run inning. Dara Kolar led off with a double to left field and Wiley followed with a single. Katelyn Marquez singled home the first run of the inning, scoring Kolar. Kacie Burnett then scored Wiley on a single down the right field line. Marquez scored the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Vicky Galasso.

ISU's final run came in the sixth inning. Taylor smacked a one-out double to right-center and she later scored off a single by Blackwell.

Boise State 4 Idaho State 1
The Bengal offense was held to five hits. Taylor was two-for-three with one RBI.  Idaho State trailed 1-0 after two innings. The Bengals only run of the game came in the third inning. Wiley reach base on a lead-off single and would later score on a single to center field by Taylor.

Boise State scored three runs in the fourth and kept the Bengals at bay the reminder of the game.

Douglas took the loss allowing four runs in 3.2 innings of work. Tolmie did not allow a hit in the final 2.1 innings.

The Spring Hill Suites Invitational concludes tomorrow. Idaho State plays Lafayette at 12 p.m. and Boise State at 4:30 p.m.
