Bailey Foster earned the win.

Box Score
OREM, Utah- The Idaho State softball team beat Utah Valley University 9-8 in eight innings. The win ups the Bengals record to 18-11 and UVU dropped to 7-19.  The Bengals scored in every inning but one and Bailey Foster earned the win, pitching the final five innings. She struck out three, allowed six hits, walked two and allowed three runs.

"Right now the best phrase we've got is love the struggle," Idaho State coach Julie Wright said. "We didn't play our best game today but we won. I really liked that we scored in every inning but one. When you can do that offensively you are pretty tough to beat in the end because those runs add up."

Jessica Tolmie pitched the first three innings, where she struck out three and gave up six hits. Foster entered the game in the fourth and finished the game.

"I thought our pitchers battled." Wright said. "When Bailey needed to get out of it she made it happen."

Idaho State pounded out 12 hits. Katelyn Marquez was three-for-five and scored one run. Kacie Burnett, Vicky Galasso, Hailey Breakwell and Katee Wiley each had two hits.  Breakwell hit her first home run of the season in the fourth inning.

Terah Blackwell had two RBIs.  Michaela Taylor scored two runs, had an RBI and walked twice.

"I was really impressed with Michaela Taylor," Wright said. "She has been playing great softball. It was nice to see Hailey Breakwell swing the bat the way she did today. Terah Blackwell is starting to get on fire, which is nice to see as well."

Idaho State led 4-2 after the top of the fourth inning. UVU then scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 6-4 lead. The Wolverines extended their lead to 8-5 after five innings.

The Bengals then started chipping away at their deficit. In the sixth inning, Hickman scored on a wild pitch and Blackwell tied the game in the seventh with a two-RBI single that scored Taylor and Wiley.

Galasso led the eighth inning off with a single to left-center and she would score the winning run on a passed ball.

"They are fighters," Wright said "They fight. It doesn't surprise me that they won this game. I just wish they would have done a little better."

Idaho State plays at Utah on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
