PROVO, Utah-Â The Idaho State softball team dropped two games to BYU on Saturday afternoon at Gail Miller Field. BYU rallied for an 11-10 victory in game one and then beat the Bengals 9-2 in the final game of the series. BYU improved to 13-19 while ISU dropped to 19-14.
The Cougars had 21 hits on the day with 19 coming in the 11-10 loss.
Terah Blackwell led the charge by going three-for-five with two runs, two home runs and six RBIs.
Micheala Taylor was three-for-six.
Kacie Burnett was three-for-seven and
Vicky Galasso was three-for-eight and scored three runs.
Katee Wiley,
Hailey Breakwell and
Katelyn Marquez all had two hits.
Jessica Tolmie took the loss in the first game and
Haley Douglas fell to 12-8 in game two. Douglas pitched four innings, allowed 10 hits and nine runs while striking out three in the final game of the series.
BYU 11 Idaho State 10
The Bengals pounded out 19 hits and jumped out to a 10-0 lead after the top of the third inning. BYU then scored three runs in the third inning, one in the fourth, three in the fifth and four in the sixth to rally for the win.
Blackwell was three-for-three with two home runs and six RBIs. Galasso was three-for-five with two RBIs and three runs scored. Burnett, Marquez, Breakwell, Wiley and Taylor all had two hits. Every Bengal that batted had a hit.
Bailey Foster pitched five innings, allowed 10 hits, seven runs, walked three and struck out three. Tolmie took the loss as she gave up four runs in the in the sixth inning. Douglas finished the sixth inning.
The Bengals scored three runs in the first inning on a Blackwell three-run homer. A six-run second inning by Idaho State was highlighted by another three-run home run by Blackwell. ISU's one run in the third inning came on an RBI double by Breakwell.
BYU 9 Idaho State 2
The Cougars led the entire game and took advantage of five ISU errors. BYU led 4-2 after two innings and 5-2 after four. The Cougars scored four runs in the fifth to put the game away.
Burnett and Taylor had the only hits for the Bengals.
Idaho State returns to Big Sky Conference play at Weber State on April 4-5. ISU plays a double header at 2 p.m. on April 4. The Bengals play at 1 p.m. on April 5.
