POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team lost 77-69 to Eastern Washington on Thursday evening at Reese Court in Cheney, Wash. The loss drops Idaho State to 11-17 and 8-11 in Big Sky Conference play while Eastern Washington improved to 15-15 and 10-9 in league.
The Bengals never led and shot 34 percent for the game (25-73) while Eastern Washington was 25-53 (47 percent). ISU was 5-26 from the 3-point line while the Eagles made 11 3-pointers on 28 attempts. The Bengals did out rebound EWU 43-41.
"Some nights it just doesn't go the way you want it," Idaho State coach
Bill Evans said. "My guys tried really hard. It was just one of those nights. Give Eastern Washington credit. They were pretty good offensively."
Andre Hatchett had 20 points and eight rebounds.
"He attacked the basket and his effort was good," Evans said on Hatchett. "He has done a really good job for us the last two years."
Tomas Sanchez scored 14 points,
Chris Hansen 11 and
Evann Hall 10.
Jeffrey Solarin had six points and 13 rebounds.
Ayibakuro Preh had eight rebounds before fouling out.
The Bengals trailed 19-6 in the first eight minutes. ISU cut the Eagle lead to 23-19 with 5:51 left until halftime after a basket by Hall. Eastern Washington then responded with a 14-4 run to lead 37-23 at the break.
The Bengals got no closer than five points in the final period.
Idaho State closes out the 2013-14 regular season on Saturday at 8 p.m. (MST) at Portland State.
