Bengals Topple UC Riverside 9-0

Box Score
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Haley Douglas tallied her first career shutout to lead Idaho State to a, 9-0, five-inning win over tournament host UC Riverside in the second day of the Highlander Classic. Idaho State has won six straight games and improved to 12-7.

Douglas (7-5) gave up four hits in five innings to lead ISU while the Bengal offense rolled, led by Galasso who tallied her ninth home run of the season, a three-run blast in the second inning.

Kacie Burnett set the tone for ISU with a leadoff triple. Four batters later, with the bases loaded, Hailey Breakwell doubled to right field scoring Burnett and Galasso.

Two batters later Maddy Hickman gave the Bengals a 4-0 lead on a two-RBI single to left field. Hickman's hit scored Breakwell and Blackwell.

After Douglas held UCR scoreless in the bottom of the first inning, the ISU offense continued to roll in the top of the second.

Katee Wiley started the inning with a single to short and Burnett again got on base, this time with a single.

Marquez then reached first on a fielder's choice.

With two runners on base, Galasso hit her sixth home run in seven games over the left-field wall to give ISU a 7-0 lead.

In the top of the third inning, Micheala Taylor scored when Sarah Hayes grounded out to the pitcher.

Wiley then hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Michaela Barr who was pinch-running for Hickman.

The Bengals didn't score the rest of the game but Douglas continued to be stellar in the circle to preserve the Bengal shutout.

"Haley Douglas gave an outstanding performance today," Head coach Julie Wright said. "Riverside is a good hitting team and she did a nice job containing them."

The win was the most complete game of the season for Idaho State.

"Vicky continues to be impressive both offensively and defensively and Hailey Breakwell made some impressive plays at short stop today," Wright said. "I thought we put together a really good, team win."

Idaho State looks to extend its win streak to seven games when they play San Diego tomorrow at 10 a.m. (MST).
