Jessica Tolmie and two-run homer from
Terah Blackwell, Idaho State defeated Sacramento State 3-2 Saturday afternoon at Miller Ranch Stadium.
Blackwell led the offense with two RBIs off a single hit, the home run.
Hailey Breakwell had one RBI and a hit. She also scored a run on Blackwell's home run.
Tolmie (5-2) struck out seven, allowed four hits and two earned runs in her first career complete game.
"She was extremely impressive today," Head Coach
Julie Wright said. "She was locked in and lights out. It was what we needed to win."
Idaho State scored first in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Sarah Hayes broke up a perfect game by Sac State's Caitlin Brooks and then stole second to get into scoring position. Breakwell doubled to left field to score Hayes in the next at-bat.
Tolmie carried a shutout through five innings before Alexis Martinez hit a two-run home run to right center giving Sac State a 2-1 lead.
The Bengals needed an answer in the bottom half of the inning and Blackwell, the career ISU home run leader answered. After Breakwell was walked, Blackwell sent the first pitch she saw to the top of the berm in left field to give Idaho State the 3-2 lead.
"I knew that she was going to put a good swing on that ball," Wright said. "She is a big moment player because she approaches everything the same."
Tolmie walked the first batter she saw in the top of the seventh but retired the next three she saw to finish off the game and earn the win, her second in as many days.
The win earns the Bengals the series win over Sacramento State, who led the conference before the coming to Pocatello.
Idaho State is now 24-17 on the season and 6-3 in Big Sky play. The Hornets fall to 19-18 overall and 7-4 in the conference.
The Bengals host Utah Valley Tuesday before hosting Northern Colorado who is tied with ISU for the second place in conference, April 19-20.
