Box Score POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State softball team completed a series sweep of Northern Colorado with a come-from-behind 6-4 win over the Bears on a sunny Easter Sunday afternoon at Miller Ranch Stadium.
"Today was an awesome team victory," Head Coach
Julie Wright said. "It was no secret that we needed the sweep to stay in the hunt. I have a team full of fighters."
The heart of the order came through in a big way for the Bengals with
Hailey Breakwell,
Terah Blackwell and
Vicky Galasso each hitting home runs to tally the five RBIs for the game. Breakwell was two-for-three and
Kacie Burnett was also two-for-three to lead ISU at the plate.
"Breakwell, Blackwell, Galasso, and Hickman continue to anchor us," Wright said. "It was a great series for them offensively."
Haley Douglas allowed nine hits, four runs and struck out four for her second complete game victory in as many days.
"I'm really proud of
Haley Douglas' effort," Wright said. "She gave us everything she had today."
The Bengals trailed 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth when Breakwell hit a homer just over the outstretched glove of the left fielder.
Galasso came up two batters later and sent her first pitch deep over the center field wall.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Blackwell homered over the left field pole scoring Breakwell and
Micheala Taylor to give Idaho State a 5-3 lead.
Michaela Barr scored later in the inning when
Jennie Murillo reached base on an error.
The Bears cut the lead to 6-4 with a two-out run in the top of the seventh but the Douglas got out of the inning to earn the win.
The Bengals host league leader Southern Utah Saturday, April 26, in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and Sunday, April 27, in a single game also starting at 1 p.m.
