POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State softball opened the 2014 home season with a 9-6 win over Utah State Tuesday afternoon at a sun splashed Miller Ranch Stadium.
Terah Blackwell had four RBIs on a double and a home run and Hailey Breakwell was four-for-four to lead a Bengal offense that tallied 13 hits.

Jessica Tolmie (3-2) allowed five earned runs and seven hits in five innings pitched to earn the victory. Bailey Foster gave up a run and three hits in two innings pitched to earn her third save of the season.

"I was pleased with the offensive production today," Head Coach Julie Wright said. "Hailey Breakwell and Terah Blackwell each had a great day at the plate. I was also pleased with our pitching staff. They continue to learn and get better."

The Bengals took a 2-0 lead in the first inning with Blackwell's double that scored Kacie Burnett and Katelyn Marquez.

Utah State answered with back-to-back solo home runs in the top of the second.

ISU tallied five runs in the bottom of the second. Sarah Hayes and Maddy Hickman scored on a Marquez single with no outs. Vicky Galasso singled on the next at-bat, scoring Burnett.
Galasso scored on a Breakwell double to give ISU a 7-2 lead.

Utah State cut the ISU lead to 7-5 on a three-run jack in the fifth inning.

USU scored a run in the seventh inning but Foster got out of the jam and struck out the last batter to end the game.

The win clinches the season sweep of Utah State.
