POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team split a double header on Friday at North Dakota, winning game one, 11-1 in five innings and losing game two, 6-5. The Bengals are 31-18 and 12-4 in Big Sky Conference play. Idaho State must win the 12 p.m. game on Saturday in order to win the regular season championship and host the league tournament May 8-10.
"We played like two different teams today and that is not how you win championships," Idaho State coach
Julie Wright said. "We will have a better approach tomorrow."
The Bengals had 22 hits on the day with one home run and 13 RBIs.
Vicky Galasso and
Micheala Taylor each had four hits on the day. Galasso was four-for-five with a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored.
Katelyn Marquez had three hits. Ten different Bengals had hits on the day.
Haley Douglas earned the win in game one and became the ISU single-season all-time win leader (17-10).
Jessica Tolmie took the loss in game two. Â
In the 11-1 win, the Bengals scored early in often as 10 of the 11 runs came in the first three innings.
Vicky Galasso led the offensive attack by going three-for-three with one home run, three RBIs and two runs scored.
Idaho State scored five runs in the first inning and batted through the order. Galasso hit her home run in the second inning. The Bengals scored four runs in the third inning. Wiley, Taylor and Marquez all had two hits in the game.
In the loss, Idaho State led 1-0 through four innings. North Dakota then scored four runs in the fifth inning. ISU rallied in the top of the seventh with four runs to take a 5-4 lead but North Dakota scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning to earn the win.
