Bengals Host 2014 ICCU Big Sky Conference Softball Tournament

ISU plays Thursday at 1 p.m. vs. Northern Colorado.

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team won the 2014 Big Sky Conference regular season title on Saturday at North Dakota. This is the second straight year ISU has won the regular season championship and for the second-straight year ISU will host the Idaho Central Credit Union Big Sky Conference tournament. Play begins May 8-10 at Miller Ranch Stadium. All games are free to the public. Idaho State opens play Thursday, May 8 at 1 p.m. vs. Northern Colorado. Sacramento State and SUU play at 4 p.m. Fans will be able to follow all games with live video, live stats and audio by logging onto isubengals.com. ICCU will be giving away free hot dogs all tournament.

The Week That Was
Idaho State lost 11-5 to Boise State on Tuesday, April 29, at Miller Ranch Stadium and then clinched the 2014 Big Sky Conference regular season championship by winning two of three games at North Dakota on Friday and Saturday.

About Northern Colorado
Northern Colorado comes into the tournament as the No. 4 seed with a 20-32 overall record and a 11-7 mark in conference. The Bears are hitting .283 as a team with 52 home runs and 244 RBIs. The team boasts a 5.29 era. Northern Colorado leads the overall series 20-15 but ISU has won eight of the last nine meetings, including a series sweep on April 19-20.

About Sacramento State
Sacramento State comes into the tournament as the No. 2 seed with a 24-19 record and a 12-4 Big Sky Conference mark. The Hornets are hitting .289 and led by Sasha Margulies .359 average. Caitlin Brooks holds a 9-5 record in 92.1 innings of work. Idaho State took two of three from Sac State on April 11-12. Idaho State leads the series 6-5. The Bengals have won five of the last six meetings.
 
About Southern Utah
SUU comes into the tournament as the No. 3 seed with a 20-28 record and a 10-6 record in Big Sky Conference play. SUU is hitting .302 as a team and has a 5.45 ERA. Madison Resley leads the T-Bird offense with a .389 average. Idaho State leads the overall series 15-10. SUU is 5-3 against ISU in the last eight meetings.

As of games played through May 4, the Bengals are sixth in the nation in batting average (.344), fifth in scoring (7.02), 29th in home runs per game (1.06) and 16th in slugging percentage (.519).

Individually, Vicky Galasso is eighth in the nation in home runs per game (.36), 14th in RBIs per game (1.22), 33rd in slugging percentage (.776), ninth in runs per game (1.16), seventh in home runs (18) and 23rd in sac flies (4.0).

Kacie Burnett ranks 15th in batting average (.449), third in runs per game (1.22), 10th in triples (5), 26th in triples per game (.10) and 36th in stolen bases per game (.52).

Terah Blackwell is second in the nation in RBIs per game (1.4), 19th in home runs (16), 24th in home runs per game (.32) and 48thth in slugging percentage (.737). Bailey Foster ranks 33rd in saves with three and Maddy Hickman ranks 10th in sac flies with five.
