Volleyball Falls to #12 BYU in Home Opener

Box Score

POCATELLO, Idaho- A crowd of 869 watched the Idaho State volleyball team fall 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-14) to No. 12 Brigham Young University in the first home game of the season.

After dropping the first set 25-18 to the nationally ranked Cougars, the Bengals responded by jumping out in front midway through set two, forcing the visitors to call time out.  BYU responded by edging out a 25-22 win before taking set three 25-14.

"I saw some really good play but I also saw some things that weren't so good," Idaho State Head Coach Chad Teichert said. "We just got to a point where we need to play at a high level on a more consistent basis. We made too many errors and need to play more as a team. Hopefully, if we get all of that put together we will be a really good team."

The Bengals attack was led by Bailey Bars who finished with seven kills. Alydia Fields-Grimm tallied 17 digs while Hayley Farrer finished with 27 assists.  Senior libero Kylee Sessions added eight digs, three assists and one ace.

"Over the course of the match I thought Kylie played quite well tonight with her defense, cover and the various roles she has on the team," Teichert said. "I thought she did a pretty good job. I thought she was quite consistent throughout the match."

BYU's Tambre Nobles killed a game high 12 points while Jennifer Hamson finished with 11 kills and a .308 attack percentage.

Idaho State travels to Orem, Utah later this week to compete in the Utah Valley Tournament against UVU, University of Portland and University of California Riverside.  Those matches will be played Friday September 19 and Saturday September 20.
