Bengal Volleyball Travels to Utah Valley Tournament

POCATELLO, Idaho
-A three game weekend road trip highlights the final non-conference games of the season for the Idaho State volleyball team. The Bengals travel to Orem, Utah for the Utah Valley Tournament on Friday, September 19 and Saturday, September 20.
ISU plays three games in two days, facing Utah Valley University on Friday night at 7 p.m. and a double header on Saturday against University of Portland (10 am)  and University of California Riverside (4:30 pm).

The Bengals enter the tournament with a 3-7 record. They fell to No. 12 BYU in their last game.  ISU is hitting .184 this season, led by Tressa Lyman's 109 kills. Setter Hayley Farrer averages nearly 10 assists per set while libero Kylee Sessions leads the team in digs with 121.
 
SCOUTING UTAH VALLEY
This will be the 12th meeting between the Bengals and the Wolverines. UVU leads the overall series 6-5 with the last meeting coming in 2013.  ISU has won the last two matches in the series. The Wolverines play in the Western Athletic Conference.
Utah Valley is 3-8 this season but has won two of their last three matches. The Bengals and Wolverines both played and lost to nationally ranked BYU this season. In UVU's eight losses this season six of them have been in straight sets.

The Wolverines are hitting .151 this season. Lauren Bakker's 87 kills and 36 blocks lead the team. She ranks second in the WAC in blocks and seventh in attack percentage and total kills. Junior McKenna Tait is second in the conference in aces and fourth in digs. Freshman Sierra Stanley has a team high 277 assists which ranks fifth in the WAC.
 
SCOUTING UNIVERSITY OF PORTLAND
This will be the sixth meeting between the Bengals and the Pilots.  ISU leads the overall series 4-1 but Portland won the last match in 2012 (3-2). The Pilots play in the West Coast Conference.
The University of Portland is 4-4 on the season but enter the tournament on a two game losing streak. Idaho State will be the third Big Sky opponent the Pilots have played this season.  They split those two matches, beating Eastern Washington and losing to the University of Idaho.  

Portland has yet to play a five set match this season.

The Pilots lead the WCC in digs with 17.31 per set. Individually, Katie Mardesich leads the conference with 4.56 per set.
Emily Liger is the conference leader in kills averaging 4.90 per set. She has 34.8 percent of the team kills.

SCOUTING UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA RIVERSIDE
This will be the fourth meeting of the season between the Bengals and the Highlanders.  ISU leads the overall series 2-1, winning the last two matches in 2013 and 2007. The Highlanders play in the Big West Conference.
UC Riverside is 2-7 on the season and enters the tournament on a three game losing streak.  Idaho State will be the third Big Sky opponent the Highlanders have played this season, losing to Southern Utah and Northern Arizona earlier this year.

The two wins this season already matches the team's entire total from 2013.

The Highlanders are last in the Big West in attack percentage (.157) and blocks (1.54/set) while allowing the second highest attack percentage to opponents (.219).
Ashley Cox leads the team in attack (2.45 kills/set) while Meagan Reza leads in blocks (0.84 blocks/set).
