POCATELLO, Idaho – In a game marked by runs, it was Southern Utah who made the final push to defeat Idaho State 68-61 Thursday night on the Idaho Central Credit Union Court inside Reed Gym.
The Thunderbirds jumped out to an early 5-0 lead and would extend the advantage to seven at 30-23 with 3:27 left in the first half. ISU would reply with a 15-0 run to close out the first half and begin the second half to surge in front 43-33.
The visitors responded to tie the game at 57 with 4:45 remaining before closing the game on an 11-4 streak to win by seven.
"Overall we have to work harder in practice," Head Coach
Seton Sobolewski said. "We have to stay positive. We have to go out in practice and earn it."
Grace Kenyon led the Bengals (7-9, 2-3 BSC) with a game-high 16 points and nine rebounds.
Rebecca Schrimpsher and Anna Lee Policichio each chipped in with 11. Policicchio also blocked three shots.
ISU connected on a season-high eight three-pointers but shot just 9-22 (40.9%) from the free-throw line.
Southern Utah finished with four players in double-figures led by Jessica Richardson and Marquelle Funk with 15.
Idaho State continues their home stand Saturday at 2 p.m. with a game against Northern Arizona on the ICCU Court inside Reed Gym.
