By Matt Gittins, ISU Sports InformationSACRAMENTO, California – The Idaho State women's basketball team shot a better percentage than Sacramento State but it was the Hornets who picked up the 84-53 victory Thursday night at the Hornet's Nest.
ISU shot 47.1% while Sacramento State shot 42.5% but the Hornets took 80 shots compared to the Bengals 51 and forced 33 turnovers leading to 39 points.
"I think we really showed our youth tonight," Head Coach
Seton Sobolewski said. "Sacramento State is playing at a really high level right now. They're intense, they're aggressive and they can sustain the high level because of all of their substitutions."
Apiphany Woods led the way tying her career-high with 23 points on 11-14 from the field. It is her fourth game this season with 20 or more points.
"She (Woods) played great. She was intense and into it," Sobolewski said. "She did a great job of preparing herself for this game. I am very proud of the effort she put in. I think she is one of the top newcomers in this conference if not the best."
Anna Lee Policicchio added a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
"We did play a lot better in the second half," Sobolewski said. "I am happy about our bounce back. We played a lot more intense and aggressive."
The Bengals (8-10, 3-4 BSC) continue their road trip Saturday at Portland State. The game against the Vikings is schedule to tip-off at 8 p.m. mountain time.
