POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team lost to the University of Utah of the Pac 12 Conference 102-72 on Friday night at the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Ali Faruq-Bey led the Bengals scoring with 18 points.
Geno Luzcando had 11 and
Ethan Telfair had 10 points and five assists.
Idaho State (2-3) shot 37.7 percent from the field while Utah (5-1) finished the night shooting 60 percent. The Bengals were 10-19 from the 3-point line and 16-19 from the free throw line. ISU was out rebounded 42-25 and had 13 assists to 16 turnovers.
The Utes were 9-19 from the three-point line and 21-24 from the free throw line. Utah had 20 assists to 14 turnovers.
"We played a really good team tonight who is really physical," Idaho State coach
Bill Evans said. "It is early and I am confident we can get better. I know we can. This game tonight will help us get ready for league. That is all that matters."
The game was close early as ISU held leads of 10-9 following a Faruq-Bey 3-pointer three minutes into the game. Less than a minute later
Ben Wilson connected on a 3-point play to give ISU a 13-11 lead.
The Utes then went on a 9-0 run to lead 20-13 with 13:26 left in the first half. With ISU trailing 24-20 with 11:20 remaining in the period, Utah ended the half on a 33-8 run to lead 57-28 at the break.
In the final 20 minutes Idaho State was only outscored 45-44.
