POCATELLO, Idaho- Despite giving up six runs in the first inning, the Idaho State softball team defeated Seattle 12-6 on Saturday afternoon at Santa Clara University. The Bengals scored 12 runs on 15 hits and six players had two hits or more.
Kacie Burnett was three-for-five with two runs scored and one RBI.
Vicky Galasso,
Gabby Lopez,
Micheala Taylor,
Maddy Hickman and
Katelyn Marquez all had two hits. Hickman had three RBIs while Galasso and Marquez each had two.
"We attacked Seattle like I haven't seen us do all season," Idaho State coach
Julie Wright said. "The peanut club stepped up big time and Gabby, Hailey and Maddy swung it big. I was really proud of the team today."
Bailey Foster improved to 3-1 by pitching 6.2 innings, allowing six hits, no runs, two walks and two strike outs.
"Bailey came in and righted the ship and our hitters went out did their thing," Wright said. "Vicky did a tremendous job behind the plate."
Trailing 6-2 after the first inning, the Bengals got a run in the fourth inning thanks to an RBI single by Marquez. The Bengals took the lead for good in the fifth inning with a five-run inning. With one out, Galasso hit her fourth home run of the season on a shot to left field.
Idaho State then loaded the bases on singles by
Hailey Breakwell, Lopez and Taylor. Hickman followed with a bases-clearing double to right-center. Two batters later, Burnett had an infield RBI single-single to plate the final run of the inning.
Idaho State sealed the win with a four-run seventh inning. Marquez, Galasso, Breakwell and
Sarah Hayes all had RBIs in the inning.
Idaho State concludes play at Santa Clara with a 10 a.m. contest against Illinois Chicago and a 12:15 p.m. game vs. Santa Clara.
