MISSOULA, Montana – For the third consecutive game the Idaho State softball team found themselves in an early deficit to Montana. Sunday afternoon the Bengals could not climb out of the hole and the Griz salvaged one game in the three-game series winning 6-3 Sunday afternoon in Big Sky Conference play.
"It is always important to take the series in Big Sky Conference play especially on the road," Head Coach
Julie Wright said. "We will need to play better from here forward."
The Griz jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a home run from Lexie Brenneis, her third of the series. ISU would get one back in the top of the third on an RBI groundout from
Katelyn Marquez but UM would immediately answer with two in the bottom of the frame and one in the fourth to seize control.
The Bengals threatened to come back for the third consecutive game in a row when
Vicky Galasso's two RBI double cut the deficit to 6-3 but the visitors would not get any closer.
Five players collected a hit led by
Sarah Hayes with two.
Idaho State travels to take on Utah State Wednesday in a non-conference battle before returning to Big Sky play March 27-28 for a three-game series at Southern Utah. The team will play their conference home opener on April 3 against Weber State.
