POCATELLO, Idaho- Despite a seventh inning three-run homer by
Maddy Hickman, the Idaho State softball team lost 5-4 to Northern Colorado on Saturday afternoon in Greeley, Colo. The loss dropped the Bengals to 30-16 and 14-4 in Big Sky Conference play while the Bears improved to 17-22-1 and 9-7 in league.
The Bengal offense was held to four hits while Northern Colorado scored its five runs on seven hits.
The Bears led 4-0 after the first inning. ISU scored a run in the top of the fourth but the Bears countered with another run in the bottom half of the inning.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning ISU had
Kacie Burnett and
Hailey Breakwell on base. After Breakwell was walked, Hickman hit her three-run homer.
Sophie Slagle took the loss for the Bengals in the circle, pitching four innings and allowing seven hits, five runs and four walks.
Ashlyn Ames pitched the final two innings and did not allow a hit or a walk while striking out two.
Idaho State closes out the regular season May 1-2 at Miller Ranch Stadium vs. North Dakota. May 1 is a double header that starts at 2 p.m. and the May 2 contest begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 1 is senior day. It is the final home games for seniors
