"I thought we executed a pretty clean game plan," Head Coach
Rick Reynolds said. "We came out, played hard and gave a lot of effort. Overall, we put more balls down, we dug better, we blocked better and it was just an all-around complete game by our complete team."
In the first set, Idaho State (10-6, 2-0 BSC) jumped out to a 5-1 lead after two service aces from senior libero
Kaitlyn Johnson and a kill by sophomore
Chloe Hirst. The Bengals kept the Wildcats (5-8, 1-1 BSC) at bay the entire set, limited WSU to nine kills and a .231 hitting percentage. After a short mid-set burst from WSU to come within three, the Bengals attacked and cruised to the 25-16 win.
Weber State found more of a rhythm in the second, and started the set with two consecutive points following a kill from Megan Thompson and a service ace from Samantha Stalker. Idaho State responded and built a sizeable 13-7 lead midway through the second following two strong kills from both junior outside hitter
Bailey Bars and sophomore outside hitter
Chloe Hirst; however, the Wildcats fueled a 12-6 run to tie the match up 19-all. ISU responded and finished the set on a 6-3 run to win 25-22 and headed into the break with a 2-0 lead.
In the third set, ISU doubled WSU's kill count 16-8, forced the Wildcats into a .061 hitting percentage and was a force at the net with three total blocks. Lyman registered six kills alone in the third, delivering a few brutal attacks on the Wildcats. The Bengals opened with a 7-2 run and never allowed WSU to close the gap, cruising to the 25-15 set win.
Following the match, the 2014 regular season championship squad was presented with their championship rings. Associate Athletic Director
Nancy Graziano awarded each member of the 2014 squad with their championship ring.
