Bengals Play Final Nonconference Tournament at Northridge

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team plays its final nonconference tournament March 18-20 at the CSUN Mizuno Classic in Northridge, California. The Bengals play two games vs. Northridge and one against Yale, UC Riverside and Loyola Marymount. To follow the games with live stats fans can log onto isubengals.com. The Bengals open conference play at home at Miller Ranch Stadium vs. Southern Utah March 25-26.

About Yale
This is the first meeting between ISU and Yale. Yale is 2-7 with wins over Southern Utah and Morgan State. Yale is hitting .244 and Lauren Delgadillo leads the way with a .350 batting average. The pitching staff boasts a 5.60 era and Francesca Casalino leads the team in the circle with a 3.89 era and a 2-3 record.

About CSUN
CSUN is 13-12 and 5-4 at home. The team is hitting .278 with Taylor Glover leading the way with a .463 batting average. Glover has one homer and 17 RBIs. The pitching staff boasts a 4.58 era. Rebecca Bell leads the team with a 2-2 record and a 3.71 era. Idaho State leads the series 1-0, winning 1-0 on Feb. 23, 2013.

About UC Riverside
UC Riverside leads the series against ISU 4-3. The Bengals won the last meeting between the two schools, 9-0, in five innings on March 8, 2014. UC Riverside is 20-7 and 15-2 at home. Madeline Richard is hitting .459 with eight RBIs. She is 21-22 stealing bases. The team is hitting .329 while the pitching staff has a 3.49 era. Kaylynn Pierce has a 3.49 era and a 9-3 record while Tayler Misfeldt is 11-4 with a 3.72 era.

About LMU
Loyola Marymount is 16-8 and beat the Bengals twice in the season-opening tournament at Grand Canyon. The Lions lead the series 3-0. Loyola Marymount is hitting .329.  Shianne Ybarra is hitting .451 and Meghan Von Behren .444. The pitching staff has as 3.82 era and Rachal Farrington has a 3.40 era and an 8-3 record.

Slagle Climbing the Record Books for Wins
Sophie Slagle has a 23-12 record in the circle since arriving at Idaho State. She needs two wins to pass Amanda Fitzsimmons and move into third place. Slagle's winning percentage is .657 (23-12), the best since Wendy Alvey went 16-6 (.727) in 1978 and Jo Hillegas-Skeleton was 16-6 in 1977 and 1979. The school record for most wins in a career is Kandis Clesson with 43.

Burnett Off to a Hot Start
Kacie Burnett leads the Bengal offensive attack. She is hitting .450 and is 9-11 stealing bases. In the last two weeks she is hitting .636 (14-22). She has scored nine runs, tallied three RBIs and is 4-4 stealing bases. Burnett has scored 20 runs and walked five times.

Portesi Making Early Impact
Alex Portesi has made an early impact for the Bengals. The transfer from Farleigh Dickinson has the second-best batting average on the team with a .406 mark. She is 26-64 from the plate, scored 15 runs and has 10 RBIs. She has played in 21 games, starting 20.  

Taylor Off to Solid Senior Season
Micheala Taylor has started all 22 games at second base and she is riding  15-game hitting streak. For the season she is hitting .397 (31-78). She has a team-best 20 runs with eight RBIs while reaching base in 15 straight games.
