POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team out hit CSUN on Sunday, in the final day of the Mizuno Classic but the Matador's used a five-run third inning to knock off the Bengals 5-2 on Sunday afternoon. CSUN improved to 17-13 and ISU dropped to 12-15.
The Bengals had 10 hits while
Ashlyn Ames held CSUN to eight.
Micheala Taylor led the ISU offense with a 3-4 afternoon.
Kacie Burnett was 2-3 with one run and
Alex Portesi had two hits.
Maddy Hickman's only hit of the game platted the two runs.
"We played hard today," Idaho State coach
Candi Letts said. "We didn't string our hits together. If we would have, we win the game. It was a great effort by our team. This preseason has prepared us for conference."
The game was scoreless through 2.5 innings. In the bottom of the third CSUN scored all five runs and took advantage of an ISU error.
ISU scored its two runs in the fifth inning. Taylor opened with an infield single and
Katelyn Marquez followed with a sacrifice bunt. Burnett then reached on an infield single and Hickman drove in the two runs on a single up the middle.
Idaho State plays its home opener March 25-26 vs. Southern Utah. Both games begin at 1 p.m. with March 25 being a double header.
