POCATELLO, Idaho- Sophie Slagle pitched the Idaho State softball team to a 4-2 win at Weber State on Friday afternoon in Ogden, Utah. Slagle went the distance, allowing six hits, two runs while striking out five and giving up no walks.
Slagle only allowed one hit through four innings. ISU has now won seven straight games. The Bengals are 19-17 and 6-2 in Big Sky play while Weber State dropped to 25-14 and 7-2 in conference.
Idaho State finished with 11 hits and was led by
Kacie Burnett's 3-4 day. She also added two RBIs.
"This was a great team win," Idaho State coach
Candi Letts said. "Sophie pitched a great game. We had solid offensive and defensive support. To score in the first and seventh inning kept Weber State in catch up mode and it gave us confidence to finish it out strong. Ashlyn and Kacie had a good offensive day with Kacie collecting two RBIs."
Micheala Taylor was 2-4 and scored two runs while
Ashlyn Ames had a home run and finished 2-3.
Dara Kolar also hit a home run for the Bengals. Seven different Bengals had hits.
Idaho State jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the top of the fourth inning. Taylor led off the first inning with a single and
Sarah Hayes then reached on an infield single. Burnett followed with an RBI single up the middle to give ISU a 1-0 lead.
Ames then hit a solo homer to lead off the fourth inning to extend the Bengal lead to 2-0. The lead was extended to 3-0 when
Dara Kolar hit a homer down the left field line.
The Wildcats scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Idaho State then added a run in the seventh when Burnett singled home Taylor, who reached base on a one-out single to left field.
The series concludes Saturday in Ogden, Utah, with a doubleheader that begins at 12 p.m.
