Bengals Host Northern Colorado on Senior Weekend

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team plays its final home games of the 2016 season on Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7 vs. Northern Colorado at Miller Ranch Stadium. The Bengals play a doubleheader at 2 p.m. on May 6 and the May 7 contest starts at 1 p.m. Live stats and audio will be available at isubengals.com.

Northern Colorado is 9-31 and 4-12 in Big Sky Conference play. Erica Dick leads the UNC offese with a .391 average, four home runs and 27 RBIs. The team is hitting .284. Jayme Reddacliff leads Northern Colorado in the circle with an 8-14 record and a 6.31 era. The pitching staff has an 8.75 era.

Northern Colorado leads the series 20-16. Idaho State has won nine of the last 11 meetings. The Bears did win two out of three from ISU last year in Greeley.

Slagle Climbing the Record Books for Wins
Sophie Slagle has a 29-16 record in the circle since arriving at Idaho State. Slagle's 29 wins ranks third all-time in ISU history.   Slagle's winning percentage is .644 (29-16), the best since Wendy Alvey went 16-6 (.727) in 1978 and Jo Hillegas-Skeleton was 16-6 in 1977 and 1979. The school record for most wins in a career is 43 by Kandis Clesson.

Honoring Five Seniors
Saturday will be the final home game for five seniors who have won championships and rewrote the Bengal record books. Before this senior class arrived in Pocatello for the 2013 season the softball program had a combined record of 79-187. Since this classes arrival in 2013, the Bengals have tallied a 121-82 mark coming into this weekends series and have won three Big Sky Conference regular season championships. Playing their final home games this weekend are Bailey Foster, Katelyn Marquez, Micheala Taylor, Maddy Hickman and Sophie Slagle.

Burnett's Hot march Continues into April
Kacie Burnett leads the Bengal offensive attack. She is hitting .457 and is 21-26 stealing bases. She has scored 44 runs and tallied 19 RBIs. In the month of March she hit .500, scored 17 runs, had 23 hits, was 7-8 stealing bases and had seven RBIs. In 14 games in April she hit .511 with with 24 hits and she has scored 16 runs.

Portesi Making Impact
Alex Portesi has made an impact for the Bengals. The transfer from Farleigh Dickinson has the second-best batting average on the team at .397, scored 21 runs and has 21 RBIs. She is 4-4 stealing bases.

Taylor Having Solid Senior Season
Micheala Taylor has started all 44 games at second base and she at one  point had a 16-game hitting streak in the season. For the season she is hitting .318. She is second on the team in runs scored with 34.

Where the Bengals Rank in NCAA Stats
Idaho State has the 25th best batting average in the country at .324. Kacie Burnett has the 12th best batting average at .457. Burnett also ranks 43rd in runs per game at one and at on base percentage at .515. Maddy Hickman is ranks 24th in RBIs per game at 1.11 and 53rd in slugging percentage at .68. Katelyn Marquez is 35th in triples per game and 29th in triples at four. Ashlyn Ames in 28th in sacrifice flies with four and Micheala Taylor is 11th in the country in the toughest person to strike out.

Where the Bengals Rank in Big Sky Stats
Idaho State and Montana have the best batting average in the conference at .324. Kacie Burnett leads the league in hitting with a .457 average and 69 hits. Burnett is also tied for first in runs scored with 44 and she is first in stolen bases with 21.
