POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State soccer team officially opens the 2016 season this Friday, Aug. 19 against Boise State at the Boas Tennis/Soccer Complex at 5 p.m. The Bengals tied the Broncos 1-1 after two overtimes last season at Davis Field.
ABOUT BOISE STATE
This will also be the first game of the season for Boise State. The Broncos finished the 2015 season with a 7-9-4 overall record and a 5-5-1 mark in the Mountain West. During the 2015 season, Boise State averaged 1.20 goals per game with a .094 shot percentage and a .404 shot on goal percentage.
The Broncos lost their top scorer Brooke Heidemann, but Mountain West Honorable Mention selection Baylee Blaser who notched four goals in 2015. Second-team All-Mountain West selection Hailey DeVries returns for the Broncos in the back line.
Boise State is coached by Head Coach Jim Thomas who is in his fourth year with the Broncos and carries a 29-25-10 overall record.
LAST MATCH: BENGALS DRAW 2-2 TIE AGAINST ALUMNI
The Bengals drew a 2-2 tie against the visiting Idaho State Alumni in their lone preseason scrimmage last Saturday, Aug. 13 at Davis Field.
"I can draw a lot of good things from this match," Gibson said. "We stayed with our game plan tactically, offensively and defensively. There were moments when we missed the mark on some of those things, and we made a few adjustments at halftime. I was really pleased with the way the players responded to the adjustments that we made at halftime."
At the half, ISU held a 1-0 lead following freshman
Brooke Kortekaas's goal in the 14th minute.
In the second half, Alumni's
Whitney Peterson (2013-15) and Taylor Powell (2007-11) both registered goals, while ISU's
Jazmin Lopez followed up on a missed attempt to score ISU's second and final goal of the match.
