POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State soccer team fell to visiting UC Irvine 3-0 Thursday afternoon at Davis Field. For the fifth time this season the Bengals outshot their opponent, this time registering 16 shots to the Anteaters' 12, but UC Irvine was able to connect on three of its six shots on goal to gain the 3-0 advantage.

Allison Gibson said. "I'm really happy with our style of play; I think we got back to playing our style of soccer. We're building and going in the right direction. We had nine sophomores and freshmen on the field, and it's incredible where this team is going."
Idaho State (3-6-0) took the opening kick to start the match, but UC Irvine (8-1-0) quickly took control, scoring in the fifth minute and again in the 11th to put the Bengals back on their heels.
"The thing that has gotten us in the last two games is giving up that early goal," Gibson said. "Unfortunately, it tastes, smells and looks like last year. We are not trying to bring that up too much, but at the same time not ignoring it either to make sure that we push through that first part of the game."
Freshman
Brooke Kortekaas led the offensive effort with a team-high four shots including two on goal. Seven other Bengals took aim, but six saves from UC Irvine's goalkeeper Maddie Newsom prevented any Bengal goals.
Idaho State is back in action Sunday, Sept. 18 as it hosts Utah Valley for a 1 p.m. kickoff at Davis Field.
