POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State volleyball team opens conference play at home this weekend against Portland State and Sacramento State. The Bengals face PSU Friday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. followed by Sacramento State Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. Both matches will be in Reed Gym.
SCOUTING PORTLAND STATE
The Vikings are 8-4 this season with two major wins against Pac-12 schools Colorado and Arizona State. Portland State averages 13.5 kills per set (2nd in Big Sky) while hitting .212 (3rd in Big Sky) in addition to 13.1 assists per set (1st in Big Sky, 49th nationally). The Vikings also average 13.8 digs and 1.9 blocks per set.
PSU's Pati Anae leads the attack, averaging 4.67 kills per set while hitting .231 in addition to 2.54 digs. Anae's 4.67 kills leads the conference and ranks 11th in the nation.
Portland State is led by Head Coach Michael Seemann who is in his 10th season leading the program after spending two seasons as associate head coach.
SCOUTING SACRAMENTO STATE
The Hornets are 6-8 so far this season and rank in the top three in the Big Sky in assists (3rd), kills (1st) and digs (1st). Sacramento State averages 13.96 kills per set while hitting .212, along with 12.8 assists and 16.4 digs per set. Sac State's 12.8 assists ranks 50th nationally while its 16.4 digs ranks 38th.
Four Hornets average over 2.5 kills per set led by Shannon Boyle at 3.81. In addition, four players average over 2.3 digs per set, led by Lexi Skalbeck at 4.3 per set.
Sac State is led by Head Coach Ruben Volta who is in his ninth season.
