CHENEY, Wash. – The Idaho State soccer team fell to Eastern Washington 3-0 Friday afternoon. The Bengals gave up two goals in the first three minutes and struggled to shake the Eagles defense throughout the match, resulting in the shutout loss.
Playing in Cheney for the first time since 2014, Idaho State (3-8-0, 0-1-0 BSC) registered just six shots, a season-low for the squad, but managed to match Eastern Washington (7-1-1, 1-0-0 BSC) in shots on goal with four. Yet the Eagles scored early and often to put ISU in a 2-0 hole with 42:22 remaining in the first half.
Just 49 seconds into the game, Eastern's Chloe Williams received a through ball from Aimie Inthoulay and broke through ISU's defensive line for EWU's first goal; the Eagles second goal came just two minutes later as Inthoulay again found the open Eagle, this time Jenny Chavez, for the score.
The Bengals regrouped briefly before kickoff and put together a solid half, limiting EWU to just three shots in the final 42 minutes of the first half.
Coming out of the break, the Bengals attacked early as freshman
Brooke Kortekaas fired a shot just 30 seconds in, but EWU's goalkeeper Mallory Taylor was able to make the save and preventing the early goal. The Bengals were able to fire off three more shots the remainder of the half but were unable to connect.
Eastern Washington scored its third and final goal in the 83rd minute.
