POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State volleyball team hits the road for conference matches at Northern Arizona and at Southern Utah on Sept. 29 and Oct. 1 respectively. The NAU match is set to begin at 8 p.m. MST, and the Southern Utah match will start at 7 p.m. MST.
NORTHERN ARIZONA
The defending Big Sky Conference champions are 12-3 so far this season with a perfect 2-0 start to conference play. NAU defeated Northern Colorado and Southern Utah on the road to extend its winning streak to five matches.
The 'Jacks are led by senior Lauren Jacobsen who averaged 4.49 kills per set, good for 13th nationally and ranks second in the Big Sky, in addition to 3.33 digs per set. As a squad, NAU averages 13.07 kills and 15.49 digs per set while hitting .292 to lead the conference.
Northern Arizona is led by Head Coach Ken Murphy who is in his fourth season.
SOUTHERN UTAH
The Thunderbirds are 2-12 on the season with wins against San Jose State and at North Texas. SUU finished the first weekend of Big Sky Conference play 0-2 with losses to NAU and at North Dakota.
Chennin Benson leads the offensive attack with 2.79 kills per set while Sariah Pelaez leads the defensive effort with 4.46 digs per set, good for fourth in the conference.
The T-Birds are led by Head Coach Craig Choate.
SERIES HISTORY
ISU vs. NAU: This will be the 70th time in school history that ISU will face the Lumberjacks. The Bengals lead the all-time series 38-31, but NAU holds the edge in Flagstaff, Ariz. with a 19-13 record.
ISU vs. SUU: This will be the 13th time in school history Idaho State has played the T-Birds. Idaho State holds a 10-2 advantage over SUU and has won each of the last 10 matches. Idaho State's last loss to the T-Birds was Nov. 18, 1978 at a neutral site.
