Bengals Prep for Idaho State Invitational, presented by Idaho Central Credit Union

Match Notes

POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State volleyball team returns to Reed Gym for its first home match of the season and its first nonconference home tournament since 2004. The Bengals are set to face Boise State, Missouri and No. 10 BYU Sept. 8-10 in the Idaho State Invitational, presented by Idaho Central Credit Union.

The Idaho State Invitational presented by ICCU begins Thursday, Sept. 8 as Idaho State faces Boise State at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9 will feature two matches at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. BYU will face Boise State in the first while Idaho State challenges Missouri in the second. The final three matches will take place Saturday, Sept. 10 as BYU plays Missouri at 12 p.m., followed by Missouri vs. Boise State at 3:30 p.m. Idaho State will face BYU in the final match of the evening at 7 p.m. All matches will take place in Reed Gym.

Idaho State's first match against Boise State on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. will serve as the Bengals' Blackout Match. Black ISU hats are available for the first 100 fans to arrive; make sure to wear all black in support of your Bengals! The Bengals' third and final match of the tournament against BYU on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. will serve as Family Day.

SCOUTING BOISE STATE

This will be the 64th time in program history that the Bengals have faced the Broncos. Currently, ISU holds a 32-31 edged on BSU, and the Bengals defeated Boise State 3-0 in Boise last season.

The Broncos are 4-2 so far this season and average 14.1 kills per set while hitting .261. BSU also averages 12.9 assists per set, 16.8 digs and 2.2 blocks per set. Sierra Nobley leads the offensive attack, averaging 4.95 k/s off a .305 hitting percentage.

The Broncos are led by Head Coach Shawn Garus.

SCOUTING MISSOURI

This will be the fifth time in program history and the first time since 2013 that ISU has played Mizzou. The Tigers hold a 3-1 advantage in the series, winning the last three meetings 3-0 each.

Mizzou is also 4-2 so far on the season, having dropped matches against Utah and Miami. The Tigers average 13.3 k/s while hitting .258 to go along with 11.8 assists per set and 13.2 digs. Melanie Crow leads the offensive attack, averaging 3.65 k/s while hitting .257.

Mizzou is led by Head Coach Wayne Kreklow.

SCOUTING No. 10 BYU

This will be the third time in 10 years that the Bengals have welcomed a ranked opponent to Reed Gym. Previously, Idaho State faced No. 16 Utah Oct. 3, 2006, dropping a 3-0 final to the visiting Utes; No. 12 BYU traveled to Pocatello and defeated the Bengals 3-0 on Sept. 16, 2014.

This will be the 29th time in program history that Idaho State has faced BYU and the third straight season. Last year, Idaho State fell in Provo to then-No. 9 BYU in five sets.

The Cougars are 6-0 on the season and have only dropped four sets so far. BYU battled No. 11 Ohio State for the 3-2 win Sept. 3. The Cougars average 14.2 kills, 15.0 digs and 13.3 assists per set while hitting .286. McKenna Miller leads BYU with 4.73 k/s while hitting .335.

BYU is led by Head Coach Heather Olmstead.
