Volleyball Hits the Road for Eastern Washington, Hosts Weber State This Week

POCATELLO, Idaho –
The Idaho State volleyball team splits matches this week, with one road match and one home match. The Bengals hit the road for a single game at Eastern Washington Oct. 12, followed by a home match against Weber State on Oct. 14.

BENGAL PREVIEW

Idaho State is on a three-match win streak after defeating both Montana and Montana State in five sets at home Oct. 5th and 7th.

LAST TIME OUT: The Bengals posted season-highs in kills (66) and digs (88) in the five-set victory over Montana State. Abby Garrity led the attack with 21 kills and 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the season, while Haylie Keck posted a career-high 37 digs.

Garrity ranks 7th in the Big Sky in kills per set with 3.31, while Keck ranks third in service aces per set with 0.39. Keck also ranks seventh in digs per set with 4.23. In conference matches, Keck ranks second in digs per set with 5.64 while both Makayla Lundin and Ashlyn Van Every rank in the top 10 in assists per set with 7.86 and 7.77 respectively.

SCOUTING OPPONENTS

EASTERN WASHINGTON

· Eastern Washington is 6-9 overall on the season with a 3-3 mark in conference play. The Eagles have picked up wins against Montana, Montana State and Northern Arizona.
· The Eagles average 12.2 kills per set hitting .144 with 11.3 assists per set and 15.9 digs per set to rank fourth in the Big Sky.

· Ashley Seiler leads EWU with 4.05 kills per set which also ranks second in the Big Sky. Megan LaFond leads the Eagles in digs per set with 4.35 which ranks fourth in the Big Sky.

· Eastern Washington is led by Head Coach Michael King, who is in his fourth season with the Eagles and his second as head coach.

· SERIES REVIEW: Eastern leads the series 40-36 with a 22-11 advantage in Cheney. But, Idaho State has won the last six meetings including a 3-0 sweep over the Eagles in the last match on Oct. 13, 2016.

WEBER STATE

· Weber State is 4-14 overall with a 2-4 mark in conference play. The Wildcats have picked up conference wins against Southern Utah and Northern Arizona at home.

· The Wildcats are led by Amanda Varley who averages 3.35 kills per set while Thamires Cavalcanti averages 4.05 digs per set, good for 10th in the Big Sky. Hannah Hill averages 1.28 blocks per set, good for fifth in the conference.

· As a squad, the Wildcats average 11.4 kills per set hitting .194 to go along with 10.6 assists, 14.8 digs and 2.8 blocks per set.

· WSU is led by Head Coach Jeremiah Larsen who is in his second season.

· SERIES REVIEW: ISU leads the series 47-40 with a 26-12 advantage in Pocatello. The Bengals have won each of the last 10 meetings including a 3-0 sweep in their last meeting on Oct. 29, 2016 in Ogden.
