POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State soccer team hits the road for a couple of conference road matches this week, making stops in Sacramento, Calif. and Flagstaff, Ariz. The Bengals face Sacramento State Friday, Oct. 13 at 4:30 p.m. MST followed by Northern Arizona Sunday, Oct. 15 at 12 p.m. MST.
BENGAL PREVIEW
· Last Time Out: Idaho State fell 2-1 at Southern Utah Oct. 6 in Cedar City. Idaho State lost two defenders to red cards early in the first half, forcing the Bengals to play with just nine players for the majority of the game. After 45 minutes of play, the score was tied 0-0. SUU opened the second half with a score just six minutes in, but ISU's
Brooke Kortekaas answered in the 57th minute with a score of her own. The Bengals weathered a shower of SUU shots in the second half, but in the 87th minute the T-birds snuck in the game-winner.
· Bambei has been a force for the Bengals as of late, scoring one goal in three of the last four games including the game-winner against Montana. During conference play, she has taken 20 total shots with nine on goal for three goals for a .150 shot percentage and a .450 shot on goal percentage. Currently, Bambei ranks tied-for-eighth in goals in the Big Sky.
· In conference play, the Bengals rank fifth in the Big Sky in shots with 74 for a 14.80 shots per game average. Idaho State ranks fourth in points with 15, fifth in assists with five and tied-for-fourth in goals with five. However, ISU ranks second-to-last in the conference in goals against average as the Bengals have given up seven goals in five conference games for a 1.34 per game average.
SCOUTING OPPONENTS
SACRAMENTO STATE:
· The Hornets are 6-7-2 overall with a 1-3-2 mark in conference play and an even 3-3-0 record at home. As a squad, Sac State averages1.07 goals scored per game with a .075 shot percentage and 14.1 shots per game.
· Kylee Kim-Bustillos leads the team in goals with six, but six other Hornets have also scored at least one goal this season. Goalkeeper Aaliyah Fesili has played 12 games in goal for Sac State with a 5-5-2 record, 45 saves and eight goals against for a .849 save percentage.
· During conference play, the Hornets rank tied for second in shots per game with 16.17 but tied for eighth in goals with 0.67 per contest.
· Sac State is led by Head Coach Randy Dedini who is in his 11th season.
· Idaho State leads the overall series 12-5-3 including a 6-3-1 advantage on the road. However, the Hornets have claimed each of the last two meetings including a 2-1 overtime win in Sacramento on Oct. 9, 2016.
NORTHERN ARIZONA:
· The Lumberjacks are 8-7 overall with a 3-3 conference record and a 6-1 record in Flagstaff. The 'Jacks are on a two-game skid with losses coming at Portland State and Montana last weekend.
· As a squad, NAU averages 1.07 goals per game with a .401 shot on goal percentage and 12.5 shots per game. 11 'Jacks have scored on the season, led by three goals each from Adrian Nixt and Malia Lyken.
· Northern Arizona is led by Head Coach Andre Luciano who is in his 17th year.
· The Lumberjacks claim the advantage in this series, leading the Bengals 11-8-3 overall with a 4-2-1 record in Flagstaff. NAU has won each of the last five meetings including a 1-0 win in Pocatello on Oct. 23, 2016.
