POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State volleyball team hits the road this week for a pair of Big Sky matches at North Dakota and at Northern Colorado. The Bengals face UND Thursday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. MST and then continue to Greeley, Colo. to take on the Bears of Northern Colorado on Oct. 21 at 6 p.m.
BENGAL PREVIEW
Idaho State has extended its win streak to five matches following wins at Eastern Washington on Oct. 13 and at home against Weber State on Oct. 15.
LAST TIME OUT: ISU finished with a season-high 18.0 team blocks in a five-set battle at home to Weber State. The Bengals were led by
Abby Garrity with 20 kills for her fourth 20-plus kill match this season, while
Taylor Meeks added a career-high 10 block assists.
Garrity ranks 8th in the Big Sky in kills per set with 3.37, while Keck leads the league in service aces per set with 0.42. Keck also ranks 5th in digs per set with 4.34. In conference matches, Keck ranks 2nd in digs per set with 5.52 while
Ashlyn Van Every ranks in the top 10 in assists per set with 8.36.
BLOCK CITY: The Bengals have been stepping up their blocking game as of late. In the last two matches, the Bengals have tallied 27.0 total blocks including a season-high 18.0 total blocks against Weber State at home on Oct. 14. In the five set win against the Wildcats, freshman
Taylor Meeks recorded a career-high 10 block assists.
SCOUTING OPPONENTS
NORTH DAKOTA
· The Fighting Hawks carry a 21-4 overall record with a 6-2 mark in Big Sky play. After starting conference play 4-0, UND suffered a 0-2 weekend on the road at Sac State and Portland State, but have since won two-straight at Montana and Montana State.
· UND averages 13.3 kills per set hitting .232 with 12.3 assists and 17.3 digs per set. The Fighting Hawks lead the conference in opponent hitting percentage (.153) and digs (17.3), and rank in the top three in hitting percentage (.232), assists (12.3), kills (13.3) and blocks (2.63).
· The Fighting Hawks are led by Faith Dooley with 3.25 kills per set hitting .382 with 1.51 blocks per set. Three players average at least 3.00 digs per set, led by Alivia Fraase with 3.72.
· UND is led by fourth-year Head Coach Mark Pryor.
· SERIES REVIEW: ISU leads the overall series 6-3 with a 2-2 mark in Grand Forks, but UND claimed a 3-0 win in their last meeting in the semifinals of the Big Sky tournament, Nov. 18 in Grand Forks.
NORTHERN COLORADO
· The Bears are 11-10 overall with an even 4-4 mark in conference play. UNC has picked up conference wins at NAU, against EWU and at Montana and Montana State.
· UNC averages 12.9 kills per set hitting .210 with 11.0 assists per set and 14.6 digs per set. The Bears rank second in the Big Sky in opponent hitting percentage at 1.77.
· Northern Colorado is led by Kortney Lockey with 3.15 kills per set hitting .193, while Taylor Els averages 4.11 digs per set and Emily O'Neil averages 1.02 blocks per set.
· The Bears are led by Head Coach Lyndsey Oats who is in her 13th year at the helm.
· SERIES REVIEW: The Bears lead the series 17-10 including a 6-4 mark in Greeley. However, ISU has won the last three including a 3-2 win in the Big Sky quarterfinals on Nov. 17, 2016.
