Soccer Hosts Eastern Washington, Idaho This Week

POCATELLO, Idaho –
The Idaho State soccer team returns home this week for a pair of Big Sky matches against Eastern Washington and Idaho. The Bengals host the Eagles Friday, Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. followed by the Vandals on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. Both games will be at Davis Field.

BENGAL PREVIEW

· Last Time Out: The Bengals had a tough weekend on the road, losing at Sacramento State 6-3 followed by a 4-0 loss at Northern Arizona on Sunday. Sophomore Makena Bambei led the Bengals against the Lumberjacks with three shots, all on goal, but Idaho State was unable to score, giving NAU the shutout 4-0 win.

· ISU's Michaela Didericksen has come on strong for the Bengals as of late. She is currently tied with Bambei for the lead in goals scored for the Bengals with four after netting two goals at Sacramento State on Oct. 13.

· In conference play, the Bengals rank sixth in the Big Sky in points with 7 and tied for fifth in goals scored with eight for a 1.14 per game average. However, Idaho State ranks last in the conference with goals allowed, having given up 17 goals in seven games for a 2.35 goals against average. Both Didericksen and Bambei rank in the top 10 in the Big Sky in shots, with Didericksen taking the sixth spot with 3.43 shots per game and Bambei filling the seventh spot with 3.29. Both Didericksen and Bambei are tied for sixth in the conference in goals scored per game with 0.43.

SCOUTING OPPONENTS

EASTERN WASHINGTON:

· The Eagles carry a 12-4-1 overall record with an undefeated 6-0-1 record in Big Sky play. Currently, EWU has clinched a spot in the conference tournament and sits alone atop the Big Sky standings.

· The Eagles have scored 35 goals this season to average 2.06 goals per game with a .400 shot on goal percentage. EWU averages 2.88 saves per game and limit its opponents to just 8.5 shots per game.

· Chloe Williams leads the Eagles in goals scored with seven, and currently is tied for the lead in career goals for the Big Sky with Idaho State's Amanda Ellsworth with 39 goals.

· EWU is led by Head Coach Chad Bodnar who is in his fourth season with the Eagles.

· SERIES REVIEW: Idaho State leads the overall series 12-8-3 with a 7-1-1 record in Pocatello. However, the Eagles posted a 3-0 win in the last meeting between these two team on Sept. 23, 2016 in Cheney.

IDAHO:

· The defending Big Sky regular-season champions are 5-9-2 overall with a 1-5-1 mark in conference play. The Vandals' lone conference win came with a 2-1 regulation win at North Dakota on Oct. 8.

· Currently, the Vandals average 1.38 goals scored per game with a .407 shot on goal percentage and a .095 shot percentage. UI has given up 25 goals on the season, and goalkeeper Makayla Presgrave carries a .719 save percentage.

· 10 players have scored this season, with four players scoring at least three goals. Bridget Daley leads the offensive attack with three goals and a team-high four assists on the year.

· Idaho is led by Derek Pittman who is in his fourth season with the program.

· SERIES REVIEW: The Vandals claim the edge in this series with a 8-6-4 overall record, but ISU leads the series in Pocatello with a 4-2-1 record. Idaho defeated ISU 3-0 in the last meeting on Oct. 28, 2016 in Moscow.
