POCATELLO, Idaho –
The Idaho State soccer team fell to Eastern Washington 4-2 on a chilly, windy afternoon at Davis Field. With the loss, the Bengals have eliminated the opportunity to make the Big Sky Conference Tournament.

"I was really proud of our girls," Head Coach Allison Gibson said. "It's obvious to anyone who has followed us that we've had a rough conference season, a rough overall season; just some ups and downs and some bad luck. But I'm just so proud of the way we played today. No one has been able to score on Eastern Washington, and for us to get two on them I thought was tremendous."

Idaho State (3-13-0, 2-6-0 BSC) fell behind early as Eastern Washington (13-4-1, 7-0-1 BSC) scored two quick goals in the first seven minutes. Chloe Williams scored at the 3:10 mark to break the Big Sky career scoring record, previously held by Amanda Ellsworth. Eastern scored again at the 6:37 mark to take the early 2-0 lead.

"It's the early goals that beat us and bury us," Gibson said. "It's tough to come back from that. We've got to figure that piece out and keep moving forward."

Eastern Washington added to its score in the 28th minute to take a 3-0 lead over the Bengals, but Idaho State responded 10 minutes later when sophomore Makena Bambei rebounded a shot from Meaghan Bare and knocked the ball into the top left side of the goal. ISU kept the Eagles at bay for the remaining eight minutes of play and faced a 3-1 deficit heading into the break.

In the second half, EWU scored once more in the 72nd minute to take a 4-1 lead, but less than eight minutes later freshman Kathryn Leachman lofted a nearly perfect cross and found the head of sophomore Brooke Koretekaas who redirected the pass into the goal. Idaho State was unable to find the goal again and fell to Eastern Washington 4-2.

Eastern Washington was led by Williams with one goal and one assist.

Idaho State continues play at home Sunday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. against Idaho as part of the Battle of the Domes.
