POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State volleyball team hosts Idaho this Thursday, Oct. 26 and will travel to Weber State Saturday, Oct. 28. Both matches are set to begin at 7 p.m.; the Idaho match will be in Reed Gym while the Weber State match will be at Swenson Gym on the campus of Weber State in Ogden, Utah.
BENGAL PREVIEW
Idaho State split games on the road last weekend as it was swept 3-0 at North Dakota but earned the 3-0 sweep at Northern Colorado.
LAST TIME OUT: The Bengals handled the Bears 3-0 in Greeley, Colo. on Oct. 21, hitting .264 for 39 kills with 49 digs and 7.0 total blocks.
Abby Garrity led the Bengals with 14 kills hitting .333 with eight digs and one block.
Garrity ranks 7th in the Big Sky in kills per set with 3.38, while
Haylie Keck leads the league in service aces per set with 0.44. Keck also ranks 3rd in digs per set with 4.59. In conference matches, Keck leads the Big Sky in digs per set with 5.89 while
Ashlyn Van Every ranks in the top 10 in assists per set with 7.38.
KECK HITS THE DECK: Sophomore libero
Haylie Keck has been all over the floor in the last few matches for the Bengals. As of Oct. 23, Keck leads the Big Sky in digs per set during conference play with 5.89 per set, and she also claims the top spot in the conference in service aces per set with 0.57. In Idaho State's three-set loss at North Dakota on Oct. 19, Keck recorded 33 digs which set the record for digs in a three-set match. Keck's 33 digs smashed the previous record of 24 set by Kylee Sessions in 2013.
SCOUTING OPPONENT
IDAHO
· The Vandals are 12-9 overall with a 7-3 mark in conference play to rank second in the North Division. Idaho is on a two-match losing streak with losses at Sacramento State and Portland State after opening conference play with a 7-1 record.
· Idaho averages 13.0 kills per set hitting .262 with 14.7 digs per set and 2.6 blocks per set. In conference play, the Vandals lead the Big Sky in hitting percentage at .291, and ranks in the top three in assists (3rd, 13.40), kills (3rd, 14.29) and blocks (2nd, 2.54).
· Kaela Straw leads the attack for the Vandals with 3.64 kills per set hitting .264, while Alycia Wodke is solid defensively with 4.67 digs per set. Torrin Crawford adds 1.28 blocks per set.
· Idaho is led by Head Coach Debbie Buchanana who is in her 18th season with the program.
· SERIES REVIEW: Idaho leads the series 20-17 including a 8-6 advantage in Pocatello. In the last meeting, Idaho defeated ISU 3-1 in Moscow on Oct. 27, 2016.
WEBER STATE
· The Wildcats are 5-17 overall this season with a 3-7 mark in conference play. WSU picked up a road win with a 3-1 win over Northern Colorado on Oct. 19.
· Weber State averages 11.5 kills per set hitting .190 with 10.8 assists per set and 15.3 digs per set. In conference play, the Wildcats average 2.26 blocks per set which ranks 5th in the Big Sky.
· Amanda Varley leads the Wildcats with 3.50 kills per set hitting .175, while Thamires Clavalcanti leads the defensive effort with 4.26 digs per set. Two players average over one block per set, led by Hannah Hill-DeYoung with 1.22 while Aubrey Saunders adds 1.10.
· Weber State is led by Head Coach Jeremiah Larsen who is in his third season.
· SERIES REVIEW: Idaho State leads the series with a 48-40 overall record, but WSU has the advantage in Ogden with a 21-18 lead. In the last meeting, ISU topped WSU 3-2 on Oct. 14.
