Box Score PDF

CEDAR CITY, Utah –
The Idaho State soccer team fell at Southern Utah 2-1 Friday afternoon at the Thunderbird Soccer Field in Cedar City, Utah. The Bengals nearly overcame an extreme disadvantage after losing two defenders early in the first half to red cards, forcing Idaho State to play with just nine players.

"I could not be more proud of my team," Head Coach Allison Gibson said. "They had everything stacked against them and they battled so incredibly hard. Their payday is coming."

Idaho State (3-10, 2-3 BSC) firing off three unanswered shots in the first 15 minutes, but at the 16:36 mark in the first half, ISU's Lauren McGahie was whistled for a foul and was consequently ejected following a red card. Almost exactly 17 minutes later, Jennifer McCaw was whistled and ejected, leaving the Bengals down two players.

Idaho State rose to the challenge, keeping the first half even and preventing the Thunderbirds from scoring. After 45 minutes of play, the score was tied 0-0.

In the second half, Southern Utah (3-10, 2-3 BSC) was able to score on its first shot of the half just six minutes in. Five minutes later, in the 57th minute, sophomore Makena Bambei found sophomore Brooke Kortekaas for the game-tying goal.

Idaho State weathered 12 shots from the Thunderbirds in the second half including four on goal, but one of the final SUU shots of the half snuck through. In the 83rd minute, SUU's Jahna Tacson scored the game-winner to give the T-birds the 2-1 lead. Idaho State countered  with shots on goal from Bambei in the 86th minute and another from Didericksen in the 87th, but SUU goalkeeper Kaitlyn Caldera saved both to secure the win.

Idaho State continues play next week on the road beginning with Sacramento State Friday, Oct. 16 at 4:30 p.m. MST in Sacramento, Calif.
