Bengals Play Home Opener Tuesday vs. Utah Valley

The Idaho State men's basketball team plays its home opener vs. Utah Valley University on Tuesday, Nov. 14 in Reed Gym. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. The pregame show begins at 6:30 p.m. with Jerry Miller calling the action. Live stats, video and audio are all available at isubengals.com.

Scouting Utah Valley
UVU is 0-2 after a 73-63 loss at No. 5 Kentucky and a 99-69 loss at No. 1 Duke. Kenneth Ogbe leads the Wolverines in scoring at 12.5 points a game. Akolda Manyang is scoring 11.5 points and averaging 9.5 rebounds. Brandon Randolph is scoring 11 points a game. Through two games UVU is scoring 66 points a game and shooting 39 percent from the field. UVU is shooting .734 percent from the free throw line and averaging 39 rebounds and 19.5 turnovers a game.

Series vs. Utah Valley
Utah Valley leads the series 5-4. The Wolverines have won the last four meetings. Last year ISU lost 82-73 in Orem and in 2015 the Bengals dropped a 100-76 contest in Pocatello. ISU's last win was 76-62 in Pocatello during the 2006-07 season.

A Look Back
Idaho State dropped a 94-74 decision at Arizona State on Friday, Nov. 10. A late run in the first half sparked the Sun Devils to a 51-33 lead at halftime. ISU got no closer than 17 points the rest of the way. Jacob McCord led the Bengals in scoring with 18 points in 23 minutes off the bench. Novak Topalovic had 13 points, six rebounds and four assists while Geno Luzcando had 10 points.

Welcome To Bengal Basketball
In the season opening loss at Arizona State, four players saw their first action as an Idaho State Bengal. Jacob McCord scored 18 points in 23 minutes of play. Blake Truman played 15 minutes, scored five points and grabbed two rebounds. Sam Dowd playd 14 minutes and had two points and two assists. Lyle Sutton played five minutes and had one assist.

Veterans Lead the Way
All five starters against Arizona State have been a part of the Bengal program since the 2015-16 season. Kyle Ingram made his return after redshirting last year and played 17 minutes. Gary Chivichyan received a medical redshirt last year and played 25 minutes and scored eight points. Novak Topalovic and Brandon Boyd were key players for ISU last year. Erik Nakken and Balint Mocsan came off the bench against ASU.

Returning Scorers
While Idaho State loses Ethan Telfair's 17.5 points per game averages, the Bengals still return 61.5 percent of its scoring from last season. The returning leading scorers are Brandon Boyd (12.4), Geno Luzcando (10.6), Novak Topalovic (10.2) and Balint Mocsan (5.4).
