Volleyball Hosts Final Regular-Season Matches this Week

POCATELLO, Idaho –
The Idaho State volleyball team hosts its final regular-season matches this weekend as it faces Sacramento State Nov. 9 and Portland State Nov. 11. The Bengals match against Portland State will serve as the final home match for three seniors who will be honored prior to the start of the match: Marissa Dance, Chloe Hirst and Makayla Lundin.

BENGAL PREVIEW

Idaho State clinched a spot in the Big Sky Conference tournament for the sixth-straight year after defeating Weber State 3-2 in Ogden, Utah. This will be Idaho State's sixth-consecutive appearance in the Big Sky Conference tournament and 14th overall.

LAST TIME OUT: The Bengals fell in straight sets at Northern Arizona with scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-17. Marissa Dance led all Bengals with 12 kills hitting .267 while Abby Garrity added 11 kills and seven digs.

Garrity ranks 9th in the Big Sky in kills per set with 3.43, while Haylie Keck ranks 2nd in service aces per set with 0.39. Keck also ranks 2nd in digs per set with 4.75. In conference matches, Keck leads the Big Sky in digs per set with 5.81 while Brooke Pehrson ranks 8th in blocks per set with 1.06.

SCOUTING OPPONENTS

SACRAMENTO STATE

· The Hornets clinched their first Big Sky regular-season title since 2007 with a come-from-behind 3-2 win against Portland State on Nov. 4. Sac State boasts a 22-8 overall record with a nearly perfect 13-1 conference mark; its only loss came at Northern Arizona on Oct. 26.

· Sac State averages 13.7 kills per set hitting .225 to go along with 12.9 assists per set and 17.3 digs per set. The Hornets rank second in the conference in three categories: assists, kills and digs per set.

· Shannon Boyle and Mikeala Nicetti lead the Hornets with 3.50 and 3.45 kills per set respectively, while Brigitte Murdock averages a team-high 4.42 digs per set. Lana Brown averages 1.09 blocks per set to rank seventh in the conference.

· The Hornets are led by Head Coach Ruben Volta who is in his 10th season with the program.

· SERIES REVIEW: Sacramento State leads the overall series 30-13 including a 14-8 advantage in Pocatello. In the last meeting, Sac State prevailed over the Bengals in straight sets on Sept. 23.

PORTLAND STATE

· The Vikings are 19-7 overall on the season with a 10-4 mark in conference play. As a squad, Portland State averages 14.2 kills per set hitting .246 with 13.5 assists and 16.1 digs per set. The Vikings lead the conference in assists and kills this season.

· Caitlin Bettenay leads the Vikings with 3.97 kills per set, good for second in the Big Sky. Tasha Bojanic leads the team with 4.89 digs per set, while Mikaelyn Sych leads the squad in blocks with 1.27 per set, good for second in the Big Sky.

· The Vikings are led by Head Coach Michael Seeman who is in his 11th season with the Vikings.

· SERIES REVIEW: The Viking lead the overall series 34-22 with a 12-11 advantage in Poctatello.
