POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men's basketball team earned its fourth straight win on Monday evening, beating Youngstown State 86-62 at ICCU Court in Holt Arena. The Bengals are now 4-5 while Youngstown State dropped to 2-9.
Balin Mocsan had 17 points and seven rebounds.
Geno Luzcando had 12 points, two steals and three rebounds and Jared Stutzman had 11 points.
Brandon Boyd had 10 points in 23 minutes off the bench.
Kyle Ingram had five rebounds, five blocks and a team-high four assists.
Idaho State shot 56.9 percent from the field and Youngstown State was held to 39 percent shooting.
The Bengals out rebounded the Penguins 37-30, had 15 assists, six blocks and eights teals. The Bengals were 11-19 from the three-point line and 17-25 from the free throw line.
Idaho State led the entire game and shot 58 percent in the first half and 55.6 percent in the second. Youngstown State shot 32.3 percent in the first half and 46.7 percent in the second.
The Bengals jumped out to a 17-6 lead in the first eight minutes of the game and 23-15 after a free throw by Sam Dowd with 7:54 left until halftime. Youngstown State cut the ISU lead to 23-20 with 6:29 left in the first period.
Brandon Boyd then sparked a Bengal run with a one-handed baseline dunk at the 5:16 mark. Three minutes later Idaho State had extended its lead back to double-digits at 35-24 with 2:01 remaining in the half after a three-point play by Stutzman.
The Bengals led 40-26 at halftime after
Gary Chivichyan hit a three-pointer in the final seconds.
The Bengals led by as many as 27 at two different times in the second half. ISU led 70-43 with 6:28 to play after a layup by Chivichyan. ISU also led 79-52 with 3:35 to play after a three-pointer by
Erik Nakken.
Idaho State plays at BYU on Thursday, Dec. 21 and then plays at CSUN on Dec. 23. The Bengals begin conference play Dec. 30 at Weber State.
