Softball Opens Season in Las Vegas

Pocatello, Idaho- The Idaho State softball team opens the 2017 season this weekend in Las Vegas in a tournament hosted by UNLV. The Bengals play five games starting Feb. 17 at 11 a.m. vs. Colorado State. ISU also plays Northern Iowa, Texas State, San Jose State and UNLV. Scouting Colorado State
The series between Idaho State and CSU is tied 1-1. ISU beat the Rams 11-7 and lost 8-6 in Fort Collins last year. Colorado State enters this weekends tournament with a 2-3 record. The Rams beat Maryland 6-3 and 14-5 in Austin, Texas and lost 7-2 to Texas, 5-1 to Minnesota and 8-0 to Texas.

Scouting Northern Iowa
This is the second meeting of the series. UNI defeated ISU 2-0 on March 6, 2010. Northern Iowa is 4-1 after the first weekend. UNI beat Omaha 4-0, Montana 10-2, South Dakota State 3-2 and Toledo 8-0. The only loss was 1-0 to Wisconsin.

Scouting Texas State
Texas State is 4-1. After a 1-0 loss to Abilene Christian, Texas State beat Texas Tech 2-1, Iowa 2-0, Texas A&M Corpus Christi 8-0 and Abilene Christian 8-3.

Scouting  San Jose State
San Jose State leads the series 5-2. The Spartans have won the last four meetings, winning 8-1 in 2015 and 9-1 and 10-4 in 2013. ISU last beat San Jose State 7-4 in San Jose on March 22, 2011. San Jose State is 3-3 after the first weekend, winning 7-3 vs. Creighton, 1-0 vs. Virginia and 11-2 vs. UC Riverside. SJSU dropped games to Western Michigan (5-1), Oregon (8-0) and Utah 8-5.

Scouting  UNLV
UNLV is 3-2 after the first weekend of competition. The Rebels lost to Indiana State 11-5 and CSU Bakersfield 5-1 and beat Virginia Tech, 10-2, Louisville 5-3 and SUU 4-0. UNLV leads the series 4-0. ISU dropped a 4-0 contest in the last meeting on Feb. 28, 2015.
