Softball Hosts UVU in Home Opener Thursday

POCATELLO, Idaho- After 18 games on the road, the Idaho State softball makes it debut at Miller Ranch Stadium on Thursday, March 23 vs. Utah Valley University. The double header starts at 12 p.m. The first game will be heard live on KISU. Live audio for game 1, live stats and video will be available at isubengals.com. Following Thursday's games, ISU  begins Big Sky Conference play on  March 25-26 vs. Portland State. The Bengals play a double header on March 25 beginning at 1 p.m. and a single-game at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 26.

Scouting UVU
Utah Valley leads the series 21-17 but the Bengals have won five straight and seven of the last eight meetings. Last year ISU beat UVU 5-3 in Orem. Utah Valley is 7-10 and plays a doubleheader at Utah State on March 22 before traveling to Pocatello.  UVU is currently hitting .333 and averaging 5.6 runs a game. Caragh Morris is hitting .417 and Brittney Vansway is batting .415 with six home runs and 31 RBIs. Lauren Frailey leads the Wolverines in the circle with a 4-3 record and a 3.00 era in 42 innings of work.

And the Winner Is
Kacie Burnett is the first Bengal to be named Big Sky Player of the Week this season. Burnett earned the honor after hitting .700 on a weekend ISU went 3-2 at the Colorado State Classic. She was 14-20 at the plate, scoring seven runs, with seven RBIs, two doubles and one triple.

Burnett is ISU's All-Time Leader
Idaho State senior Kacie Burnett is Idaho State's all-time hit leader. The senior outfielder had three hits against Fresno State to break Vicky Galasso's record of 253. Burnett now has 280 hits. She is second in runs scored with 193 but only needs two to break Galasso's record of 194. Burnett is also first in triples with 17 and first in stolen bases with 99.

- Kacie Burnett has 11 multiple hit games this year, a nine game hitting streak and reached base in nine straight games.
- Kacie Burnett has the second-best batting average in the country at .574. She also ranks 9th in the country with an on base percentage of .606.
- Frankie Tago has a two-game hitting streak.
- Kacie Burnett is hitting .750 in the last nine games. She is 24-32 with 12 RBIs, scored eight runs and had a .938 slugging percentage.
