POCATELLO, Idaho- Emma Bordenkecher hit a two-RBI single in the eighth inning to lift Idaho State to a 5-3 victory over Montana on Sunday afternoon in Missoula.
Idaho State had 12 hits and was led by the play of
Ashlyn Ames in the circle and at the plate. Ames pitched the Bengals to the win by tossing a complete game. She scattered eight hits, while striking out two and walking two. At the plate Ames was 3-5 with one RBI.
Sarah Hayes,
Shayna Dahlen and
Alex Portesi each had two hits.
"Great energy from the first pitch on," Idaho State coach
Candi Letts said. "We answered back after they tied the game. Ashlyn and Shayna did a great job in keeping their hitters off balance today. We hit the ball well today and adjusted from their starter to relief pitcher."
The Bengals jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the second inning and maintained the lead until Montana tied the game at two in the fifth inning.
ISU's scored its first run thanks to an RBI single by Ames that scored
Kacie Burnett, who reached on a one-out single.
Idaho State's second-inning run came with two outs. Dahlen doubled down the left field line and then
Kelsey Breer drove her home.
The Griz scored two runs in the fifth inning and the Bengals answered back with a run in the seventh inning. Ames had a one-out double to left-center.
Mariah Mulcahy came into pinch run and she would score on a Montana throwing error.
Montana tied the game in the bottom of the seventh before ISU won the game in the eighth.
In the Bengals final at bat, Dahlen started the inning being hit by a pitch and then Breer reached on a fielder's choice. Hayes singled to left field and then Burnett reached on a fielder's choice. Following Burnett's fielder's choice Bordenkecher drove in the winning runs on a single to the short stop.
Idaho State closes out the regular season next weekend at Northern Colorado. The Bengals are still in the hunt for a spot in the Big Sky Conference tournament.
