EUGENE, Ore. – The Idaho State soccer team fell at Oregon 4-0 in its final non-conference contest of the season.
Idaho State (1-7-0) was led by freshman
Rachel Brownell with three shots in 45 minutes while freshman
Kathryn Leachman and sophomore
Makena Bambei each recorded two shots on the night.
The Bengals started out strong, firing off two shots in the first two minutes, but Oregon (6-2-0) countered with five straight shots in the next 10 minutes with the fifth shot resulting it its first goal of the night. The Ducks controlled play for the remainder of the first half preventing the Bengals from taking another shot. Oregon scored once more in the 29th minute to give the Bengals a 2-0 deficit heading into the break.
In the second half, Idaho State recorded seven shots but Oregon fired back with 10 shots of its own. The Ducks scored in the 74th and 86th minutes to seal the 4-0 victory.
"We played a much better second half against Oregon," Head Coach
Allison Gibson said. "We just came out and were totally outmatched in the first half."
The Ducks were led by Jessica Yu with four shots, three shots on goal and one goal in 46 minutes of play.
"This has been a very tough non-conference schedule on our team, but they have fought really hard, and I am so proud of them," Gibson said.
Idaho State opens conference play on the road, beginning with its conference opener at North Dakota on Sept. 22 at 2 p.m. MST.
