Volleyball Returns Home to Host Northern Arizona, Southern Utah

POCATELLO, Idaho –
After eight-straight road matches, the Idaho State volleyball team returns home for four-straight, beginning with Northern Arizona and Southern Utah Sept. 28 and 30 at Reed Gym. The Bengals are hoping to snap a 10-match losing streak this Thursday against the Lumberjacks.

BENGALS PREVIEW

The Bengals are on an 10-match skid with three losses coming against Top 25 teams with a 3-0 loss to then-No. 16 Michigan, a 3-0 loss at then-No. 25 Colorado State and a 3-0 loss to No. 1 Minnesota.

LAST TIME OUT: ISU fell in three sets at Sacramento State with scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 25-14. Abby Garrity led the Bengals with a team-high 13 kills off 41 attempts with three errors to hit .244 while Chloe Hirst recorded a match-high 20 digs.

SCOUTING OPPONENTS: NORTHERN ARIZONA

·The Lumberjacks are 5-8 overall on the season with a 1-1 mark in conference play. NAU lost in five sets to Northern Colorado on Sept. 21 to open conference play, but picked up a 3-0 win at Southern Utah on Sept. 23.

· Kaylie Jorgenson leads the offensive attack with 3.42 kills per set, good for fifth overall in the Big Sky. Brooke Donnelly leads the defense with 4.35 digs per set, good for third overall in the conference.

· The Lumberjacks average 11.4 kills per set hitting .206 with 10.7 assists and 16.4 digs per set. They're service is solid with 1.25 aces per set (good for sixth), while they average 1.4 serve-receive errors per set.

· NAU is led by Head Coach Ken Murphy who is in his fifth season at the helm.

· Series Review: Idaho State leads the series 39-32 including a 23-10 advantage at home. In the last meeting, the Bengals bested the Lumberjacks 3-2 in Reed Gym on Nov. 5, 2016.

SOUTHERN UTAH

· The T-birds are 5-9 overall with a 0-2 start to Big Sky play. SUU picked up wins at South Carolina State, vs. Howard, at CSU Fullerton, vs. Liberty and at Air Force.

· Southern Utah averages 11.57 kills per set hitting .175 with 10.81 assists per set and 14.5 digs. The T-birds rank in the middle of the Big Sky (6-8th) in every single statistical category except service aces, which they rank 11th with 0.90 per set.

· Macky Fifita leads the T-birds with 3.33 kills per set hitting a .157 clip while Sarah Vang leads in digs with 3.22 per set.

· The Thunderbirds are led by Head Coach Craig Choate who is in his third season with Southern Utah.

· Series Review: The Bengals lead the series 12-2 including a perfect 7-0 record at home. Idaho State has won each of the last 12 matches, including a 3-1 win in its last meeting at home on Nov. 3, 2016.
