POCATELLO, Idaho – The Idaho State volleyball team hits the road for the third time this season, this time for the Colorado State Tournament, hosted by Colorado State in Fort Collins, Colo. The Bengals will face two Top 25 teams in No. 16 Michigan (Sept. 8 at 10 a.m.) and No. 25 Colorado State (Sept. 10 at 12 p.m.), and will face Mid-American Conference foe Ball State (Sept. 8 at 8 p.m.).
BENGALS PREVIEW
Idaho State has lost two in a row coming into the Colorado State tournament. The Bengals average 11.7 kills per set hitting .236 to go along with 11.8 digs per set and 1.8 blocks per set. Senior
Chloe Hirst leads the offensive push with 3.34 kills per set with
Abby Garrity in a close second at 3.17 kills per set.
ISU returns two all-conference performers in
Chloe Hirst and
Marissa Dance, and returns 2016 starters
Abby Garrity,
Brooke Pehrson and libero
Haylie Keck.
The Bengals are led by third-year Head Coach
Rick Reynolds, who carries a 42-29 overall record with ISU.
SCOUTING OPPONENTS
No. 16 Michigan
· The No. 16 Wolverines carry a 5-1 overall record, with their only loss coming at No. 19 USC.
· As a squad, Michigan averages 15.2 kills per set hitting at a .308 clip to go along with 13.3 digs per set and 2.2 blocks per set. The Wolverines are led by Adeja Lambert with 3.25 k/s while Cori Crocker is the Wolverines' defensive leader with 1.35 blocks/set.
· Michigan is led by Head Coach Mark Rosen who is in his 19th year with the program.
· This is the first time in program history that Idaho State has played Michigan.
Ball State
· The Cardinals were picked to win the MAC West Division, and so far carry a 5-2 overall record with losses against Indiana and IUPUI.
· Ball State averages 13.2 kills/set hitting .233 to go along with 15.3 digs and 2.1 blocks per set. The Cardinals are led by Brookyn Goodsel with 3.75 kills/set while Avery Devoe controls the defensive effort at the net with 1.11 blocks per set. Libero Kate Avila averages 3.84 digs per set.
· Ball State is led by second-year Head Coach Kelli Miller.
· This is the first time in program history that Idaho State has faced Ball State.
No. 25 Colorado State
· No. 25 Colorado State is 5-1 on the season with its lone loss coming to Duke on Aug. 25.
· The Rams average 13.6 kills/set and 12.9 assists per set while hitting .310 to go along with 12.9 digs per set and 2.9 blocks per set. CSU is led by Kristie Hillyer with 3.18 kills/set. Hillyer also leads the defensive effort with 1.59 blocks per set.
· The Rams are led by Head Coach Tom Hilbert who is in his 21st season with CSU.
· This is the 11th time in program history that these two teams have met. The Rams hold a 9-1 series advantage with ISU's lone win coming at a neutral site match on Sept. 25, 1982.
