POCATELLO, Idaho- Despite leading for nearly the entire game, the Idaho State men's basketball team dropped an 87-83 contest to Portland State on Thursday evening in Reed Gym.
Portland State took its first lead at 82-80 with 3:23 left in the game. ISU later led 83-82 a minute later but the Vikings scored the final four points to earn the win.
Idaho State had five players score in double figures led by
Brandon Boyd's and
Balint Mocsan's 17 points.
Jared Stutzman had 15 points,
Sam Dowd 13 and
Geno Luzcando 11.
Boyd had a career-high nine rebounds while Luzcando had six assists, three steals, one block but he did have five turnovers.
Idaho State shot 55.4 percent from the field while Portland State shot 50.8 percent from the field. The Vikings out rebounded the Bengals 37-27. Both teams turned the ball over 17 times in what was a very up-tempo game.
Idaho State was 10-21 from the three-point line but hit only 11 free throws on 21 attempts.
ISU led the entire first half and jumped out to a 21-10 lead six minutes into the game after a 3-pointer by Mocsan. The Bengals led by as many as 15 in the first half at 46-31 with 4:55 left in until halftime. ISU held a 51-37 lead at halftime and a 57-41 lead with 18:30 left in the game.
The Vikings cut the ISU lead to 64-54 with 14:15 remaining. With ISU leading 68-59 with 12:25 to play, the Bengals were held without a field goal for the next five minutes. ISU led 71-68 with 7:43 left in the game and maintained the lead until the Vikings took the 82-80 lead at the 3:23 mark.
Idaho State returns home to host Sacramento State on Saturday at 7 p.m. in Reed Gym.

- ISU shot 55.4 percent from the field. It is the sixth time this season the Bengals have shot 50 percent or better from the field. ISU shot 61.3 percent from the field in the first half.

th place on the ISU all-time scoring list with Brand Robinson (1975-79).
